Today, [October 17] the Dalai Lama is scheduled to meet with President Bush at the White House. Wednesday, Bush and congressional leaders are to present the 1989 Nobel Peace Prize winner with the Congressional Gold Medal — the highest civilian honor awarded by Congress — during a ceremony in the U.S. Capitol Rotunda.
