Executive Director, Liz Ellmann has a New Year’s resolution to contemplatively stroll in the wooded and wet neighborhood around the office of Spiritual Directors International. By taking a half-hour walk midday to reflect, to join others praying for peace, and to listen for God’s voice among the birds and dump trucks doing construction nearby, I hope to grow closer to God and contribute to peace with each step. What’s your prayerful resolution?

  1. Rev. Valerie Fons, president of Lake Adventures Uniting Nature and Children With Hospitality and owner of Bread & Water, LLC, has a New Year's resolution to reach beyond herself and tradition to overcome timidity and partner with others where God is leading extension ministry in the specialized site of Washington Island, Wisconsin. One of the ways I am heeding this resolution and call is to make announcement on this site. Yippee!

  2. My new year's resolution is to pray contemplatively each evening for world peace holding the daily and world events in the heart of Christ.

  3. my intention is to give my best effort each day, if not moment, to trusting God.

  4. My New Year's prayer-resolution is to spend more time in silence before the Blessed Sacrament. Spending more time in silence before the Blessed the Sacrament will help me to be more attentive to the inspiration of the Holy Spirit and live in God's presence. The silence of the heart will help me to develop a listening heart in order to be present to myself and to be attentive to others. By prayerfully living in God's presence, I will grow closer and deeper in my love for God and others.

  5. My New year's resolution is in two parts - first take time each day to read the (way too many?) eblasts I have requested rather than wait until they are old and just deleting them. I have found that a year-long resolution is difficult to really keep so, My other, and greater, resolution is to do things in a smaller way - so, for me, this is a "new month" resolution. Each month, I resolve - to pray daily and journal, to do exercise, to watch what I eat, whatever, and do it faithfully for that month. On the last day of each month, I will review what I have accomplished, see how it feels, do it more or change to something more meaningful. This feels less threatening and more valuable to me, the supreme breaker of resolutions. Thanks for this chance to share.

  6. My New Year's Resolution is to spend at least one half hour per day in meditation and at least one additional hour per day in some kind of contemplative activity, which will vary depending on my needs that day. It may be working in the garden, walking in the park, yoga, contemplative art, etc. Giving myself one and a half hours per day of quiet time and inner work will help me to make my life a prayer.
